Team Selection Criteria

SOUTHBOURNE TEAMS – SQUAD AND MATCH SELECTION CRITERIA

Squads are needed so players feel part of a team and to cope with injuries, illnesses and squad members being away. Squads will therefore need to be made up of a minimum of 6 members.

Dorset League

This is a two pair doubles league playing other Clubs.  Hence selection will be based on:

  1. Doubles success/experience at Senior Club level or other representative level
  2. Doubles results
  3. Flexibility to play with different partners and in a team environment
  4. Fitness to play 2 doubles matches
  5. Availability
  6. Behaviour and attitude on and off court to maintain the good standing of Southbourne Tennis Club
  7. In the case of adults their previous highest rating as their rating may go down due to playing less often
  8. In the case of juniors their current rating

Team Tennis events

This is four singles and two doubles against other Clubs.  Often doubles results can make the difference between winning a match and hence selection will not be based on singles ability alone but on a number of factors including:

  1. In the case of adults their previous highest rating as their rating may go down due to playing less often
  2. In the case of juniors their current rating
  3. Doubles success/experience at Senior Club level or other representative level
  4. The ability to fit into and potential contribution to a team environment
  5. General fitness
  6. Behaviour and attitude on and off court to maintain the good standing of Southbourne Tennis Club

A small committee will put together the clubs squads taking advice from the coaching team. The team captain has the final decision on the selection of the Team. These decisions will be subjective and doubles ability will always come into this decision.
