Pickleball has arrived at Southbourne Tennis Club

Granted you may never have heard of this unusually named game, but we think it is a perfect complement to tennis at STC. Pickleball is hugely popular in America and is now increasing in popularity here in the UK

Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of tennis, table tennis and badminton. It is easy to learn, fast-paced and extremely fun to play.

1) It is played on a ¼ size court.

2) It uses solid paddle bats and a perforated polymer ball.

3) The net is slightly taller than a standard mini-tennis net.

STC has now purchased all the equipment necessary to play Pickleball and has painted a Pickleball court onto the Mini-Tennis area behind the club-house. All members are welcome to use the Pickleball court which can be booked on Club Spark (as per all other courts). The bats and balls are kept in the clubhouse for all to use.

A short guide on the rules to Pickleball can be found in the attached pdf which has also been placed on the entrance to the Mini-tennis / Pickleball court.

Please see the following short video produced by the BBC about how Pickleball is ‘taking-off’ in the UK.
